Mission Statement & Services
The San Antonio Development Agency's mission is to revitalize inner city and selected target areas by providing for the assembly of buildable lots at a reasonable market rate and making the lots available to non-profit or for-profit builders and others who wish to fulfill the City's revitalization goals and objectives. The San Antonio Development Agency provides state-of-the-art land acquisition and distribution services for the greater San Antonio area. The focus of the acquisition and distribution of the land is guided by a geographically targeted revitalization plan initiated by the City or a special project plan put forth by a developer, private or non-profit builder, in support of the City's efforts to revitalize neighborhoods. Agency Background The San Antonio Development Agency was created in 1958 by City referendum to undertake urban redevelopment activities in slum and blighted areas. Major projects have included the Convention Center and Hemisfair Plaza Areas, Market Square, Rosa Verde Redevelopment, Vista Verde, Government Hill, Grandview East, St. Paul Square, Villa Coronado, and Colonias Santa Cruz, San Alfonso, Amistad and Romero neighborhood revitalization areas. Funding for the Agency's projects is made available through cooperative efforts of the City of San Antonio and the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development through allocations from the Community Development Block Grant and HOME Investment Partnership Programs as well as other revenue sources. The San Antonio Development Agency's policy-making body consists of a Board of Commissioners appointed by City Council. Board members are Ann B. Paddie (Chairperson), Darryl Byrd (Vice Chairperson), Jonathan Starr, Miguel Aguilar, Dr. Gilbert J. Murillo, Tim Kellcy, and Diane Gonzalez-Cibrian.
